Everyone has a story. Yours matters.

You’ve had high points and low points.

Joyful surprises and huge disappointments.

They’ve shaped your views and values in the present.

Your next chapters aren’t written yet.

While your past informs your present, it doesn’t define your future.

“Past performance is no guarantee of future results.” Yet your wins hold good lessons and reveal strengths to refine and share with others.

Your failures and wounds can be burdens or springboards. Being open about them can make the difference.

Record the journey.

It’s amazing what memories get jogged when you bother to jot things down. You probably won’t like every memory, but you’re a leader. Best to face facts and decide what to do with them. Even your worst day can be redeemed (I’ll share my example with those who ask.)

Reveal the lessons.

Look back on the highs and lows of your life. Ask yourself questions like these:

  • Where were my values shaped or challenged?
  • Who has had an enduring influence on me? What parts aren’t healthy?
  • When have I experienced greatest fulfillment? Made my best decisions?
  • Who needs to hear part of my story to find courage and wisdom?

Reshape your life path.

Hey, you’ve made it this far in life. You’ve done many things right. Be grateful! And you still have opportunities to deploy your strengths and ignite your Core Values even more!

We can’t control external turbulence that will hit…sometimes hard. But knowing it will come, and appreciating what you’ve endured, you can take proactive steps to ride it out.

Blazing a legacy includes helping other leaders handle the bumps and get back on path.
